Rangers Revamped

As a kid born in the 90's, there are so many iconic shows that are hallmarks of my childhood. Spongebob, Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo. And of course, Power Rangers. I was absolutely obsessed with the Power Rangers. In fact, it was my lifelong goal to become one. The classic version featured a somewhat anime style of film. Now the show is being brought to life with a complete Hollywood makeover.

I don't know if I should be happy or sad to see this show that I loved so much turned into a high quality film. Much like other classic cartoons turned blockbuster movies, such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, these movies are targeting the people who used to watch these shows as children. The classic cartoons just have a magic to them that cannot be put on screen when you have high quality computer graphics. If you have watched the old Star Wars movies and the new ones, you know what I'm talking about.

With that being said, I'll be the first to buy a ticket to see this movie. Who doesn't like superhero movies?

  1. I too remember Power Rangers and find it fascinating that Hollywood is continuing to remake and update the classics from our childhood. Whether they are hit or miss, they still tap into our nostalgia for the different properties. It will be interesting to see how this film is marketed and if our age demographic will come to support the film in theaters.

  2. In one of my classes we talked about the potential pitfalls of the Power Rangers movie. For me personally, I am over the superhero trend. I was glad to learn that Speilburg and Lucas predict that such a trend will end soon. My teacher--Gene Del Vecchio--believes a bit otherwise, as he is a marketer and research guy. Even with that said, this trailer is SIGNIFICANTLY different than the one I saw in class and makes the movie look less wretched...

Fun fact about trailers, they often cut several, not only to show different ones as the movie approaches opening, but based upon appeasing certain demographics and their sensibilities.

  3. Power Rangers was my favorite show as a kid, and I dressed up as a Power Ranger for probably 5 Halloweens. It was also my goal to become one. But I had no idea they were making a movie! I'm worried it will ruin the allusion I had that the show was amazing, but it will definitely be interesting to see!

  4. I'm right there with you, I'm a huge fan of the Power Rangers. Growing up I used to play with my action figures while simultaneously watching the show. I just recently saw the trailer and it brought back those childhood memories. I even recall dressing up as the White Ranger for halloween back in the day! I think its safe to say I'm excited for the movie!

  5. Like most of everyone else commenting on this post, Power Rangers was my absolute favorite show growing up. Me and my friends used play and be the power rangers. I got the transformers for my birthday, lots of good memories.
